Not Everything are about being 'black': Jada Pinkett Smith and Alopecia
I am going to be 65 Years old in few Months. I am a Male of 'Recent African Origin' (RAO)1. I was about 19 Years of Age when I noticed the Hair on my Head falling out. My Hair Fallouts were not in Heaps, but were just littering the Floor of my Room. It was only whenever I combed my Hair that the Fallouts came out in Heaps on the Comb. First, I decided to no longer comb my Hair, but continued to wash it every Day. Nevertheless with time my Hair began to lock, as in Dreadlocks. During this time I visited a distant Uncle of mine, and his Daughter, my Elder by two Years, took a Comb to my Hair insisting that my Appearance did not speak well of me. If I did not tell you then Cousin Fadeke, now you know why I was wearing Locks.
One Morning after my Cousin had combed out my Locks, I came out of my Room only to meet my Mother in the Backyard of our enclosed House looking at me aghast, and saying: "I am your Mother and not once did I do this to you. I never shaved your Head." I had shaved my Head because I did not know what was going on with the Hair. I had gotten tired of it falling out littering my Room and dropping in my Food. I began to endure Ridicule, and Scorn over my shaved Head on the Streets, and at Work whenever I took off my Cap. At Work, I was interested in this young Woman, Doja, but she would have nothing to do with me due to my shaved Head. See, I still remember her Name, and her Exemplification of the Prejudice about Hair in that Country called Nigeria some 46 Years ago. Even my Cousin combing out my Locks was another Instance of 'Hairstyle Prejudice'©. Then I tried jerry-curling my Hair, but I did not let it work because I kept washing the Hair every Day. Men jerry-curling their Hair was also frowned upon in another Form of Hairstyle Prejudice. Finally, I settled back to shaving my Head since between my 30th and 40th Birthday. I left Nigeria Years before my 30th Birth Anniversary. On Occasions, up to the Present, you might find me growing my Hair, but only because I am trying to find out if my Hair would stop falling out or Scalp cease itching in my Attempts to grow the Hair. Lately, it is the Hairs on my Body which are falling out. I am a very hairy Person.
This brings me to the Oscar Awards of 2022 at which US Comedian Chris Rock threw the Joke: "Jada, I love you. G.I. Jane 2, can't wait to see it" at US Actress Mrs Jada Pinkett Smith. Mrs Smith's Husband, US Actor Will Smith, laughed, heartily too, to the Joke. Mrs Smith too laughed - if you will, smiled broadly - to the Joke before rolling her Eyes. It was after the rolling of the Eyes that her Husband got up from his Seat, walked to Chris Rock to slap the poor Guy in Violation of his Human Right, and Civil Right. This Incident between Chris Rock and Will Smith was not "Altercation." 'The Word 'Altercation' defines two or more Persons trading oral Hostilities. Will Smith physically assaulted Chris Rock, period.
Will Smith has presented his Action as defending or protecting his Wife. It is utter Rubbish, of course. One defends at the Point of an Attack. Although 'attack' is a Word misunderstood more often than not, an unfavorable Joke - perceived or real - does not in the wildest of Imaginations approximate to 'attack' in its misrepresented Meaning. Certainly, Mr Chris Rock was not engaging in the distorted Fashion of 'attack' on Mrs Smith at the time at which Mr Smith slapped him. One protects to ward off an Attack. At the time at which Will Smith slapped Chris Rock, his perceived 'Attack' on his Wife had already happened. Nobody, except myself, is even considering that Will Smith in making the Argument of defending Women or protecting Women is exhibiting the classic 'Alpha Male Syndrome'. Even his Speech for his best Actor Oscar Award is full of this Disease.
I have heard and read a lot of Nonsense that the 2022 Oscar Awards Chris Rock Joke at Jada Pinkett Smith is underpinned by both Racism, and Sexism against 'black' Women. In the Confusion of this false Indignation I came across the ridiculous Association of this Joke with the Notion that "Black women are made to feel ashamed of their natural hair." Where is the "natural hair" if one is bald? What has the RAO Person low cut Hairstyle, as Mrs Smith spotted at the Occasion,2 got to do with "black Women['s] … natural hair"? A low cut is a low cut. 'White' Women too spot low Cuts.
I saw a Chris Rock Show on Netflix in 2021, I think. I ended up not liking him after the Show. I thought he was arrogant. However, at the 94th Oscar Awards Celebration in 2022, Rock did no wrong with his Joke at Smith. It was just "a G.I Jane Joke" as Rock advised the Husband. Chris Rock was truthful. The Joke was not about Alopecia. Even if it were, Alopecia is not peculiar to Jada Pinkett Smith albeit her Experience of it is particular. Alopecia is not the Preserve of "black Women" even if Rock had made a Joke about that Condition. The Condition affects 'white' Women too. In fact, Men also can suffer from it whether green, purple or whatever. I am probably being assailed by it - from around Age 19 - going by my Hair Narrative above.
Y'all, 'black this, black that' Crybabies need to grow up. I am African too, and I will not remonstrate that a Joke about a Condition general to the Human Species is to my Detriment just because it is directed at me. That Attitude is so kindergarten. I suffer from Diabetes among my other incurable Conditions. Make all the Jokes about them all you want. I will not come charging at you. The simple Truth is; Will Smith is a violent Person who knows exactly who - not 'whom' - he can direct his Violence at. In this Way, I agree that he would never have dared slap a 'white' Comedian making the same or similar Joke. Who is he to do that? He knows where the Power resides.
Nothing about the Joke abused "black Women" either. Will Smith slapped Chris Rock in Resentment of himself for initially laughing at the Joke he later believed Jada Pinkett Smith disliked. He misapprehended the rolling of his Wife's Eyes. Any competent Psychologist would know that the rolling of her Eyes could be representing any of the many different Aspects of the Joke. Did she roll her Eyes to "I love you"? Was the "can't wait to see it" a subliminal Message in Recollection? Perhaps importantly, Smith criminally assaulting Rock has nothing to do with his Representation of Rock's Joke to his Wife, but everything to do with what he would rather not think about or remember? Will Smith did not assault Chris Rock because he is an angry Person as it is being bandwagoned. Smith slapped Rock because he is frightened of losing Jada Pinkett, and will do anything to keep her in his Life. I do not see this kind of Relationship enduring. It is not one of Equals. Jada Pinkett is in Control.
In all of these, I find Chris Rock a beautiful Soul. He refused to press criminal Charges against the Perpetrator of Violence against him, and has also not publicly commented in condemning the Man who humiliated him before the whole wide World beyond Reason. I wish Rock would let the Police do their Job, and arrest Will Smith for Investigation towards being arraigned in Court. I would then like to see Smith in Court evidencing how Rock's Joke to his Wife at the 2022 Oscar Awards Ceremony (a) was about Alopecia in general and (b) "disrespected his Wife", Jada Pinkett Smith, specifically. It would also be eye-opening to understand how those espousing Smith's Idiocy would corroborate his sick State of Mind and convince the Courts that they are indeed reasonable Persons. I am particularly eager to be educated as to how that Joke is underpinned by Racism and/or Sexism, and how the Joke per se identifies Rock as a "Misogynist."
As I finish up here, I wish Will Smith to know that for as long as he calls himself 'black' and/or 'African-American' in Acceptance that he is of RAO, he has cursed himself in African Tradition by physically striking an older Person to him without Cause. Chris Rock is four Years his Elder. Smith kept hallucinating that 'God' has "called" him or is "calling" him to do something, but even in the Bible is the clear Message that One should respect One's Elders as a Matter of Course (unless the Elders threatens One's Life). Smith is not David. Neither is Rock Goliath.
Epilogue
One defends at the Time of Attack. It is instantaneous. One protects to deflect Attack. It is preemptive. Neither Circumstance accommodates Will Smith's Hallucination that he was defending or protecting Jada Pinkett Smith by slapping Chris Rock with the whole World watching, or at all. It appears that Ipemndoh dan Iyan is the only Person cognizant that with his Excuse of defending or protecting Women in assaulting Chris Rock, Will Smith demonstrated the classic 'Alpha Male Syndrome'. Even his Speech for his best Actor Oscar Award is replete with this Disease.
Smith's violent Assault was both cowardly, and sneaky. Smith slapped Rock because he is frightened of losing Jada Pinkett, and will do anything to keep her in his Life. I do not see this kind of Relationship enduring. It is not one of Equals. Jada Pinkett is in Control.
